  • climber.org is a website established in 1994 to further the interests of S.F. Bay Area climbers. It has since expanded to meet the needs of a wide variety of climbers. There are associated email broadcasts which serve these climbing interests, and the site has a wide range of reference material useful to climbers, including the trip reports which are linked to some of our photos.

  • The Peak Climbing Section (PCS) is an activity section of the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club. They're a diverse group brought together by their love for climbing in the mountains. Their activities are as varied as the Sierra topography: they climb rock, snow and ice, crags and high summits; ski and snowshoe; hike the local hills and travel abroad to climb. Their main focus, however, is on nontechnical ascents of peaks in the Sierra Nevada.

  • The Sierra Club's members are 700,000 of your friends and neighbors. Inspired by nature, they work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. Its mission statement:
    1. Explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth.
    2. Practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources.
    3. Educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment.
    4. Use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

  • World Wildlife Fund. Known worldwide by its panda logo, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is dedicated to protecting the world's wildlife and wildlands. The largest privately supported international conservation organization in the world, WWF has more than 1 million members in the U.S. alone. Since its inception in 1961, WWF has invested in over 13,100 projects in 157 countries.

    WWF directs its conservation efforts toward three global goals: protecting endangered spaces, saving endangered species and addressing global threats. From working to save the giant panda, tiger, and rhino to helping establish and manage parks and reserves worldwide, WWF has been a conservation leader for 40 years.

  • National Wildlife Federation. Through education, activism, advocacy, and litigation, the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) helps people protect the wildlife, wild places, and resources we all share. NWF focuses its conservation efforts on five core issue areas: Endangered Habitat, Water Quality, Land Stewardship, Wetlands, and Sustainable Communities.

  • The Nature Conservancy has set the standard in the US for land stewardship, buying and protecting important areas of threatened habitat, then either managing them to promote the habitat's long term survival or donating them to government entities to be incorporated within existing parks and preserves.

    Their Mission is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

  • The American Alpine Club is devoted to mountaineering, climbing, and the multitude of issues facing climbers. With an emphasis on adventure, scientific research and education, the Club is dedicated to:
    • the promotion and dissemination of knowledge about the mountains and mountaineering through its meetings, publications and libraries;
    • the cultivation of mountain craft, and the promotion of good fellowship among climbers;
    • the study of the high mountains of the world, the gathering of facts and the observation of phenomena pertaining to them;
    • the production of a series of illustrated publications to present a complete description of the alpine mountains of the world;
    • the scientific exploration of high mountain elevations and of the regions lying within or about the Arctic and Antarctic circles;
    • the conservation and preservation of the mountain environment; and
    • the representation of the interests and concerns of the American climbing community

  • The Access Fund is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to keeping climbing areas open and to conserving the climbing environment. The Access Fund accomplishes these goals by working closely with land management agencies, environmental organizations, climbing groups, outdoor businesses and guide services on conservation projects, land acquisitions and climbing policy.
